Mid-Coast Mental Health Center Joins Maine Mental Health Partners

In a concerted effort to improve the quality and delivery of mental health services in Maine, Maine Mental Health Partners (MMHP) announced it has added a new member to its family of services. On February 17, Mid-Coast Mental Health Center joined Maine Mental Health Partners, helping to further the organization's mission to create an integrated network of community-based mental health services.

Established in 1965, Mid-Coast Mental Health Center (MCMHC) has a rich history of delivering quality mental health and substance abuse services to residents of Knox, Waldo, and Lincoln Counties. MCMHC provides support to people of all ages who are facing life stresses, behavioral health problems, or a mental or co-occurring illness. Services include: children's case management; crisis response and stabilization; integrated mental health services in select primary care practices, schools and community-based settings; residential treatment for adults; and substance abuse counseling. MCMHC teams with PenBay Medical Center to offer outpatient psychiatry and therapy services in Rockland and Belfast. Last year, MCMHC programs delivered services to approximately 4,000 residents of the 3-county region.

"Our goal is to create a network of services that are focused on the needs of the individual and provide continuity of care," stated Dennis King, CEO of Maine Mental Health Partners. "Mid-Coast Mental Health Center will fill gaps in our continuum of services. Together we will be better able to offer coordinated services, reduce the cost of delivering care, and help speed the recovery process for consumers."

Maine Mental Health Partners was developed in 2008 to create greater efficiencies in Maine's mental health system by growing a network of nonprofit treatment providers who share a common vision and clinical philosophy.  MMHP members are committed to providing consumers with effective, coordinated treatment when they need it and at the best cost.

MCMHC joins these current members of Maine Mental Health Partners: Spring Harbor Hospital, Spring Harbor Community Services, Community Counseling Center and Integrated Behavioral Healthcare.

As CEO of Mid-Coast Mental Health Center, Todd Goodwin is looking forward to working collaboratively with other members of the Maine Mental Health Partners family.  "This partnership will strengthen MCMHC and help us expand our services within the mid-coast region, which is seriously under-resourced," Goodwin said. "We welcome this opportunity to play a role in creating a more rational, accessible, and affordable system of quality mental health services throughout much of Maine."

"Maine Mental Health Partners is a testament to what good can be achieved when Maine people and providers work in partnership," King stated. "Our members are part of an innovative model of collaboration that is not only benefitting consumers of mental health care and their family members, but also those that fund mental health services and the citizens of Maine as a whole."
